He speaks about war being covered in the news which is obviously a controversial topic because it is suppose to present it in an accurate way with possibility of peace negotiations. But he believes 99.9 % of the time that is not the case. He says of how people don’t want a war unless it is absolutely necessary but in the case of our history the media portrayed that we had to have one.
I found it interesting his explanation of the reason behind some stories, that are meant to divert the attention of the viewer/reader from things that matter, and therefore reduces our capacity to think (sports, random stories, etc)
I feel one of his quotes that sums up his whole idea is this,
"At this stage of history, one of two things is possible: Either the general population will take control of its own destiny and will concern itself with community interests guided by values of solidarity and sympathy and concern for others, or alternatively there will be no destiny to control.”
Although a lot of his points were somewhat extreme he brought up very good ideas and made me think more of media influence and how with a lot of things portrayed I just assume it is correct because the media is saying it. With all that said, I still believe there are people accurately speaking on what is going on, it's just some things do need to be analyzed a little bit more. Kind of scary how our world has been so shaped from the media, been built upon what our leaders have said and how most of us just take that as truth. Also, in line with the research I am doing on wiki leaks, the media decides what we get to hear and see which i think is a problem. Certain things we deserve to know but also there are things I think we don’t need to know. I really don’t agree with how he says sports is a diversion, I believe there is a form of entertainment that is ok, obviously in balance with familiarity of what is going on in the world as well. But I do see what problem he is talking about. Seeing my generation, rarely does a person my age care that much about news because we have been so distracted by other things, and that is definitely a problem. In conclusion, this was an eye opening video and brought to surface many things i had not previously thought about.
